About the Private Practice Startup category

Starting a private practice requires significant planning and a measure of business acumen. Since doctors are often untrained in the relevant business processes, we have endeavoured to provide a broad overview of the steps involved in setting up a private practice to help you get started.

Bear in mind, however, that the implementation and ultimate success of your practice will likely require you to do deeper research.

As the process can seem daunting, some Practice Management Bureaus exist to assist doctors with starting and managing their private practices.

Still, getting a broad grip on what a private practice entails would be a wise first step. So, put your (likely underutilised) business cap on, and let’s get started !

STEP 1: Business Plan
STEP 2: Registrations
STEP 3: Business Bank Account
STEP 4: Dispensing License
STEP 5: Building, Furniture, Electronics
STEP 6: Appliances and Equipment
STEP 7: Medicine
STEP 8: Professional and Practice Insurance
STEP 9: Branding
STEP 10: Practice Management Software
STEP 11: Staff
STEP 12: Radiology and Pathology
STEP 13: Medical Aids
STEP 14: Miscellaneous

does anyone know what documents the CIPC need to register your trademark?

Hi @DrMatroos

It will depend on the type of registration, i.e. sole proprietary or incorporated. Either way it will be a personal liability company.

I suggest you check out the CIPC website for more information on each and follow the instructions for the one you choose.

Or if you’re not sure about anything then it would be wise to consult your accountant, they can assist you with registering. You don’t want to mess up your CIPC registration, that’s for sure.

There are some medical accounting firms listed on this site if you’re still looking for one.
