Tambo Memorial Hospital

Rural Allowance: No

Doctors Quarters:

  • No comments yet.

Academics:

  • Spent the year in ED, great teaching by the consultants and have well established departmental protocols. DipPEC accredited.

Supervision:

  • Great support when needed, but you also get pushed to be able to manage a busy ED floor.

Clinical Exposure:

  • Mixed ED (see medical, surgical, paeds and O&G patients), great variety of pathology and lots of trauma.

Departments worked in:

  • Emergency Department - Full year placements only. Shift work in the ED, very good working hours.
  • Emergency Department - At TMH you get allocated to one dept for the duration of your ComServe year. The ED is very well run and well established, and highly recommend for anyone looking to be better at handling any kind of emergency. The hours are shift worked based (7-10hours each), and are much more humane than the 24h + calls still done in other departments.

Social Scene:

  • Not much to do in the area.

Additional Comments:

  • The ED is also part of the academic circuit for WITS, so registrars also add to your teaching.
