CMSA Accreditations: None
Rural Allowance: No
Doctors Quarters:
- No comments yet.
Academics:
- There are no senior doctors on site, you can phone George Hospital for advice. There are regular M&Ms that are presented by the comserves so you provide the academics to the facility.
Supervision:
- No senior doctor on site. This does however teach you to be competent and be able to work independently.
Clinical Exposure:
- Still see lots of pathology for such small town.
Departments worked in:
- Emergency Department, OPD’s - There is no theatre so no major surgical/anaesthetic exposure. Can still perform some small procedures under local if you are comfortable.
Social Scene:
- You get invited by locals to their events, but there are no shopping centres, movies. There are bars, but I never went as it’s a bit awkward with the whole community knowing you are a doctor and they often ask for money.
Additional Comments:
- "Even though the rating seems low, it was still a good experience.
Because there is no senior support at the facility you do grow fast and become independent and there is senior support only a phone call away, it’s not the same as hands-on support but they don’t mind helping.
If you are interested in surgical exposure you can request to rotate at Beaufort West from the clinical manager, so there are ways to improve your exposure. I am not interested in a surgical field so I did not request to go.
So in essence what you make of your comserve experience in Murraysburg is fully dependent on you. "
