Academics:
- Daily morning meetings and weekly lectures by medical interns. Occasional M&Ms, CSMO lectures, CHIPP and PIPP meetings monthly. Overall not the highest quality, discussions mostly for the benefit of BCMP Students, no guideline enforcement or teaching, individuals largely practice as they will.
Supervision:
- Not great. But there was always someone to call for advice at least.
- Good cover for calls, seniors expected to come out and assist if called. On Call there is a 2nd on call for OnG/Female patients, and a 3rd on call for male and High Care patients. Must be able to work independently, however advice available from your seniors or referral hospital.
Clinical Exposure:
- Internal Medicine, Emergency Department.
- Only worked in the Emergency Department. Fair exposure to a variety of Medical and trauma patients.
Departments worked in:
- Emergency Department, OPD’s - You can ask to switch allocations from the various departments. May be granted. District hospital so no specialist services, however a large fairly medicine department so consultants are available, many work in the wards.
Social Scene:
- Probably individual dependent.
Additional Comments:
- Decent work life balance. Not a bad community service at all compared to many stories you hear. Fair expectations. Accredited for DipPEC.
