POST 5: MEDICAL OFFICERS/ DENTISTS [SHFT] [WITH SPECIALIST QUALIFICATIONS – 3 YEAR
CONTRACT POST] = 10 POSTS
CENTRES AND DISCIPLINES: Limpopo Academic Complex (Pietersburg, Mankweng and Thabamoopo
hospitals)
ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CLINICAL DEPARTMENTS:
:black_small_square: Anaesthesiology, Diagnostic Radiology, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery,
Orthopaedic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Neurosurgery, Paediatric Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Plastic
and reconstructive surgery, Urology, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and
Child Health, Radiation Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, Maxillo-facial surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics or
any other HPCSA recognized specialty.
:black_small_square: These posts are reserved for applicants who have completed their registrar training in a relevant discipline
but are still completing the requirements in order to register with the HPCSA as a Specialist.
:black_small_square: The posts are 3-year contract posts. Employees in the service who opt to continue with their pension
benefits will be required to resign after the completion of the contract, should they not be successful in a
specialist or medical officer position.
SALARY PACKAGE [All-Inclusive Remuneration Package]
:black_small_square: All-inclusive Remuneration package: Grade 2: R1,082,988 per annum, Grade 3: R1,253,415 per annum
:black_small_square: Incumbents may be stationed in regional hospitals within the province.

  • Rural allowance of 18% of basic salary PSCBC will apply when stationed at Mankweng,
    Thabamoopo, Tshilidzini, Letaba, and Mokopane hospital.
  • Rural allowance of 22% of basic salary ISRDS will apply when stationed at St Rita’s and Philadelphia
    Hospital.
    :black_small_square: Willingness to perform Commuted overtime in accordance with the Provincial Commuted Overtime Policy
    and departmental requirements.
    REQUIREMENTS: A) Qualifications and Competencies
    :black_small_square: An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions
    Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical/Dental Practitioner.
    :black_small_square: Current registration with the HPCSA as a Medical/Dental Practitioner.
    :black_small_square: A Fellowship with the College of Medicine of South Africa, and progress on
    research towards an MMED in the same discipline OR under exceptional
    circumstances the province may consider applicants who are foreign-qualified
    specialists.
    :black_small_square: Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years appropriate experience as a Medical/Dental
    Practitioner after registration with the HPCSA (or a recognized foreign health
    professional council in respect of foreign-qualified employees).
    :black_small_square: Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years appropriate experience as a Medical/Dental
    Practitioner after registration with the HPCSA (or a recognized foreign health
    professional council in respect of foreign-qualified employees).
    :black_small_square: Inherent requirements of the post: Willingness to work in a flexi and or shift
    system.
    :black_small_square: Inherent requirements of the post: Computer literacy including MS Outlook,
    Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Virtual meeting platforms literacy.

    B) Knowledge and Skills
    :black_small_square: Sound clinical knowledge and skill in the required discipline.
    :black_small_square: Ability to work after hours.
    :black_small_square: Collection and analysis of data.
    :black_small_square: Sound Medical Ethics and Rational use of resources.
    :black_small_square: Ability to conduct effective and efficient training and mentoring.
    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
    :black_small_square: Render a comprehensive quality clinical service to patients in your specialty.
    :black_small_square: Coordinate clinical responsibilities with and supervise, instruct and train Medical
    Interns, Medical Officers and Registrars.
    :black_small_square: Effectively manage administrative functions.
    :black_small_square: Render outreach and support services to other levels of care in the catchment.
    :black_small_square: Participate in academic activities at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
    :black_small_square: Participate in formal training, mentoring and monitoring of health workers at other
    levels of care.
    :black_small_square: Be responsible for clinical governance for your discipline and ensure effective
    mechanisms are put in place to ensure patient safety.
