Inherent requirements of the job:

  • Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s licence.

Registration with a professional council:

  • Registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner.

Competencies (knowledge/skills):

  • Extensive knowledge of clinical workflows, patient pathways, patient safety principles and clinical governance frameworks with proven strategic and improvement practices. Appropriate experience in the implementation, coordination and facilitation of improvement initiatives (lean implementation) in the hospital setting. Appropriate experience supporting and facilitating a daily management system for operational teams. Appropriate experience with implementing interventions for patient centred healthcare. Ability to analyse complex clinical systems and utilise healthcare data to inform decision-making and service redesign.

Minimum educational qualification:

  • Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner.

Experience:

  • Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years’ appropriate experience as a Medical Practitioner after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner in respect of SA qualified employees. A minimum of 11 years’ relevant experience after registration as Medical Practitioner with a recognised foreign Health Professional Council in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service as required in South Africa.

Duties (key result areas/outputs):

  • Provide clinical leadership and expert advice in the planning, implementation and evaluation of strategic service improvement initiatives across the hospital. Analyse clinical pathways, patient flow, patient safety risks and operational processes to identify opportunities for system redesign and improved patient outcomes. Lead and facilitate multidisciplinary teams in the implementation of evidence-based improvement interventions aimed at enhancing quality of care, patient experience and operational efficiency. Coach and support managers, clinicians and frontline teams in the application of continuous improvement methodologies and problem-solving approaches. Promote the integration of clinical governance, quality improvement and patient safety principles into routine operational management practices. Utilise clinical and operational data to monitor performance, evaluate interventions and guide decision-making. Coordinate innovation and improvement projects, monitor outcomes and provide reports on the impact of initiatives on patient care, service delivery and resource utilisation.
