Requirements :
- Senior Certificate / Grade 12 or equivalent
- An appropriate tertiary qualification (MBCHB) plus
- Registration certificate with HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
- Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner after completion of community Services 2025/2026
- Persons in possession of a foreign qualification must attach an evaluation certificate from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
RECOMMENDATION:
- At least 6 months’ experience in Anaesthetics would be a recommendation.
- The Diploma in Anaesthesia (DA) from the College of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA) or progress toward primary exams (FCA PART 1) will be an added advantage.
- Other valid additional certificates such as BLS, ACLS, and ATLS will be an added advantage.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, TRAINING AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Good knowledge of Anaesthetic procedures and latest protocols.
- Knowledge and appropriate use of anaesthetic equipment
- Experience and ability to deal with a wide variety of Anaesthetic cases
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team setting
- Good interpersonal and supervisory skills
- Provide training and guidance to members of the multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to diagnose and manage common anaesthetic problems including emergencies
- Sound moral values based on integrity, trust and judgement.
- Sound knowledge of the relevant legislative mandates, policies and prescripts governing the medical profession and public health in South Africa.
Duties :
- Provide safe, high quality clinical care for patients during pre-operative assessments, intra-operative regional and general anaesthesia administration and post-operative care including pain management.
- Manage emergency resuscitations, urgent medical stabilisation and intensive care needs.
- Ability to identify the need for and refer appropriately
- Work with other clinical care units
- Ability to manage patients in a holistic manner
- Give medical judicial evidence
- Maintain medical records
- Provide training to the members of the multidisciplinary team in theatre
- Participate in continued professional development and teaching programmes.
- Participate in departmental audits and all other quality improvement initiatives
- Knowledge of the clinical governance framework and the legislated norms and standards.
- The successful applicant will be required to perform commuted overtime after hours.
