Leatitia Bam CHC

CMSA Accreditations: None

Rural Allowance: No

Doctors Quarters:

  • No comments yet.

Academics:

  • There is none. But you have a bit of time to aid your own learning. No diplomas unfortunately, not even HIV

Supervision:

  • Almost no supervision. You are the only doctor on during the day and the other doctors often make excuses not to come in meaning you will be alone there seeing the clinic. There are monthly meetings with the district doctors but they never lead to anything. This is the biggest flaw for this clinic

Clinical Exposure:

  • You won’t do any surgery, you run the clinic in the day with the nurses and will sort out emergencies as they come in. You will often be the first contact for patients who are acutely ill, meaning you get to resus, get to do enough intubations. You will apply POPs for many of the fractures as you have x-rays in the day to review. Referral to Uitenhage is always available and they usually accept without too many questions.

Departments worked in:

  • Emergency Department, OPD’s

Social Scene:

  • Depends where you live but it is close enough that you can stay in PE which has entry of social activities and is great for anyone enjoying beach, surf, or outdoors

Additional Comments:

  • It is not the easiest place to work as you don’t have access to many things your patients need. However, the sisters are amazing and work hard, they will do all the sutures and let you fill the J88 in later. You will need to help out in Maternity on occassion but for the most part patients will go to Dora if they are sick. In the days the clinic will keep you busy most days until 4pm. but You will always get sleep on a call, and calls are mostly quiet. So make sure you have something to read!
