Join Our Team at Bay Urgent Care – Medical Doctor Position

Position: Medical Doctors (Shift work)
Start Date: 01 October 2025
Bay Urgent Care is a new, modern, fast-paced Urgent Care Centre dedicated to providing quality, accessible healthcare to the communities of Port Elizabeth and surrounding areas. We are looking for friendly, efficient, and professional Medical Doctors to provide care at our Centre. The ideal candidate should be compassionate, people-focused, highly organised and experienced in Acute and Urgent Care and have a passion for customer care.
Note: this is not an Emergency Department role.
Please note that at peak operation the practice will be open from 07:00 to 23:00, seven days a week. Initial hours will be shorer. A shift-rostering system will be developed to distribute all hours amongst the Medical team.
Remuneration is market-related will be discussed with successful candidates
Minimum Requirements:
- MBChB registration as an Independent Medical Practitioner, with current HPCSA registration
- Up to date CPD certification
- BHF Practice Number (or willing to obtain prior to starting)
- Medical Indemnity Insurance (or willing to obtain)
- Passion for excellent, ethical and evidence-based care
- Willingness to provide high-level customer service
- Valid ACLS and PALS certifications (or willingness to obtain)
- Willingness to attend accredited training courses to enhance scope of practice
- Comfortable managing both adult and paediatric acute care presentations
- Comfortable with basic procedures such as suturing, fracture care, nebulisation etc.
- Comfortable with mental health acute care
- Comfortable working with team members in a multi-discipline practice
- Valid Code B (light motor vehicle) driver’s license with own transport
The following will be a strong advantage (any, not all):
- Diploma in Primary Emergency Care (DipPEC)
- Diploma in Child Health (DCH)
- More than 2 years’ experience in Primary Care
- More than 1 years’ proven experience in private sector Emergency Care or General Practice
- Bedside ultrasound proficiency (advantage)

- High clinical competence and sound decision-making in Urgent Care settings
- Commitment to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and team-based learning
- Strong communication, patient counselling, and bedside manner
- Fully IT-literate - ability to work confidently with Electronic Medical Record systems, online booking tools, and TeleHealth platforms (or be able to learn quickly)
- A proactive approach to learning, teaching, and leadership within the clinical team
- Willingness to complete structured Urgent and Emergency Care courses and contribute to internal training programs
