Requirements :

  • Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Medical Specialist in Paediatric intensive care. Current registration with the Health Professions Council (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Paediatric intensive care. A minimum of three (3) years appropriate experience working in Paediatric intensive care as a Sub-specialist. Fair Understanding of basic Human Resource Finance legislation , regulations policies and frameworks, work with the hospital and academic department using a collaborative approach, mentor junior staff and show commitment to excellence in patient care and a track record of successful academic productivity. A valid Driver’s licence.

Duties :

  • Provide strategic leadership and management in direct patient care, clinical management of Paediatric intensive care unit and to supervise and teach Medical Officers, Registrars, and Fellows. Undertake regular follow-up ward rounds with Medical Officers, Registrars and Fellows, Design standard operation procedures and protocols for management of Paediatric ICU conditions in a multidisciplinary team to assist healthcare facilities that refer to our hospital in supporting their clinicians with managing patients in their facilities through running outreach programs and being accessible to them, to perform management and administrative duties. Develop and sustain clinical services that will contribute towards improving the quality of care and clinical services offered to children requiring ICU services and the appropriate requirements for management of children who seek care in our hospital ICU, Assist the Head of Department when needed, on different matters around management and administration of the Department, Participate in Gauteng Department of Health, Hospital and University management/ administrative Governance structures and committees, Partake in teaching/ training of medical officers and postgraduate students, to teach and train Medical Officers, Registrars, Fellows, Nurses and Allied Professionals , Contribute in development of curriculum for post graduate students, Actively involved in all activities around development and growth of Medical officer, Registrars and Fellows. Conduct clinical research and partake in research activities and supervision of both medical officers and post graduate students involved in research, establish, and maintain a database of all patients. Lead the development of relevant research in the subspecialty. Establish and maintain a strong working relationship and research collaboration with other specialists or professionals at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic hospital, University of the Witwatersrand, affiliated hospitals and entities, and both national and international professionals in the field of Critical care. Perform outreach activities to hospitals within the cluster that refers to CHBAH. Manage financial and human resources , assets and materials.
