Academics:

  • It was during Covid but we tried having monthly tutorials/M&M meeting etc.

Supervision:

  • Wonderful supervision during day-day workload. You are on your own during calls though with 2 nurses(you do your calls in Uniondale hospital) But can get advice from seniors at George hospital easily.

Clinical Exposure:

  • Primary Health care mainly (you work mainly in the primary health care clinics and not at Harry Comay itself - also depends where they need doctors for that day). You get a weekly roster of which clinics you are assigned to for the week. Clinical exposure in Uniondale Hospital during calls are vast and wild (very rural) but you refer most cases to George Hospital.

Departments worked in:

  • ARV clinic, Emergency Department, OPD’s - In George I mainly did Primary health care. In Uniondale on calls you do everything that comes your way (it’s a 13 bed hospital and you are the only Dr in town-not sure if they finally got a GP in town).

Social Scene:

  • George itself is amazing in terms of social scene/amazing scenic routes. Uniondale on the other hand is very rural, 1x kwik spar. Not much to do, there are a few hiking trials according to locals.
