CMSA Accreditations: None
Rural Allowance: No
Doctors Quarters:
- No comments yet.
Academics:
- A couple of great seniors offer good one on one learning and mentorship.
Supervision:
- After the first month or so you’ll usually be on call with an intern in the evenings. A senior is always available to call for help telephonically, and support from the hospitals you refer to via Vula is great. Good supervision during the day.
Clinical Exposure:
- Good clinical exposure for a clinic. Exposure to trauma and medical emergencies, primary health management of acute and chronic conditions. Very much depends what you make of the opportunities though.
Departments worked in:
- Emergency Department, OPD’s - "Most year spend 6months at the clinic, but due to the Covid pandemic we spent the full year in the CHC in 2020. Overtime is currently made up by doing 3 weekend 12 hour shifts a month, plus about 2 “late stays” (until 7pm) per week. Prior to the pandemic we also did EC calls at Heideveld EC once or twice a month but only until 11pm.
If you’re enthusiastic there is opportunity to do minor surgical procedures, maternal and neonatal resus’s, plenty of trauma resus’s, and develop good relationships with the teams you refer to at GSH. "
Social Scene:
- Friendly team of 1 consultant, 4 permanent MOs, 3 cosmos, and about 3 interns. Opportunity for friendships with the Mitchells plain Cosmo team too.
Additional Comments:
- It’s a good option for those wanting to be in Cape Town. In the years where 6 months are spent at Mitchells plain EC it seems like a perfect option. A full year or CHC time is quite long though
