CMSA
Diplomas and FC examinations can be done through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA).
The CMSA is the accredited national examining body for medical professions in South Africa. They consist of 29 Colleges that cover the entire spectrum of medicine and dentistry, thereby fostering medical education, assessment, and professionalism across all disciplines.
More information, including the requirements for specific examinations, can be found on their website. To make it easier, follow the links below for the relevant pages on the CMSA website:
- The list of examinations offered by each College.
- The regulations, guidelines, and recommended reading of each examination.
You will likely notice that most of the examinations have certain requirements for you to apply. Make sure you leave enough time before the application deadline to complete the application process by checking the examination regulations early on.
Tip
Depending on the hospital and department, it can become difficult to get a post in a specific department if you have not completed the relevant diploma yet.
It would, therefore, be wise to consider whether you are inclined to any specific career direction when applying for community service, so that you might get the required experience in an accredited facility (read the regulations and guidelines above).
Even better would be to do the diploma while you are still doing community service!
This is not an absolute must, but it will improve your chances of getting a post in your desired department after community service.
